Summer Olympics and SPOT 24
The Paris Summer Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024. The 2024 Games will mark the third time that Paris has hosted the Olympics. The first was way back in 1900 and the second was in 1924. There will be 45 sporting events across 35 competition venues in Paris and its neighboring cities— including Versailles, Le Bourget, Nanterre.
The Opening Ceremony will be the first ever held in a city center, with gigantic Olympic rings to be displayed on the Eiffel Tower overlooking the Seine, on which a swarm of boats will carry athletes toward the Tower. It’s the first time in the history of the Summer Games that an opening ceremony hasn’t been hosted in a stadium.
The 15,000 athletes in Paris will be based in the newly constructed 2024 Paris Olympic Village, a 300,000 square meter project built between Saint-Denis, Saint-Ouen-sur-Seine, and the Île Saint-Denis. After the Games, the village will be converted to future residential living for locals.
Not able to make it to the games? The Olympic Museum and Paris je t'aime (Paris tourist office) are teaming up to present "SPOT 24 – The Olympic Sport and Urban Cultures Exhibition". This co-production showcases six new Olympic disciplines: skateboarding, sport climbing, BMX freestyle, surfing, 3x3 basketball and breaking. This exhibition will run 31 December 2024 will also include a café and a tourist information point.
